Chris Porter is one of the UK's most distinguished music producers, engineers and mixers, with a career spanning four decades and a discography that reads like a who's who of popular music. Operating through his company Medaltape Ltd and Porterhouse, Porter has worked alongside some of the most iconic artists in the world.
He began his career in the 1980s, cutting his teeth in the recording studios of the UK during one of the most fertile periods in British music history. His technical mastery and intuitive ear for sound quickly earned him a reputation as a go-to engineer and mixer for major artists and labels alike.
A landmark moment came with his Grammy nomination for engineering and mixing the Pet Shop Boys' celebrated track "Se A Vida É" — recognition that cemented his standing as one of the finest engineers of his generation.
His long association with George Michael — spanning Wham! through to Michael's most celebrated solo work — is one of the defining partnerships of his career. In 2019 he upgraded his Porterhouse studio with a 7.1.4 Atmos system and has Dolby Atmos Certification, bringing his craft into the spatial audio era without missing a beat.
From 2017 through 2021, he toured the world as front of house engineer for progressive rock giants King Crimson, developing new skills and working, again, with some of the finest musicians in the world.
In recent years he has mixed multiple legacy catalogs in Dolby Atmos as well as working on various film projects.
His reputation is one of quiet excellence — and he continues to build on a body of work that has shaped the sound of British and international music across generations.
